Fabricated Geomembrane Institute (FGI)

The FGI is an industry sponsored research institute with twenty-six members. The Fabricated Geomembrane Institute (FGI) is a nonprofit organization and is dedicated to advancing the use of fabricated geomembranes through education, research, and technology transfer. Factory fabrication increases geomembrane quality, reduces field welding, reduces installation time and costs, and provides more consistent seam quality than field seaming. The FGI and its member companies research and develop opportunities for fabricated geomembranes in the following areas:

  • Floating Pond/Reservoir Covers for Potable Water
  • Canals, Streams, and Decorative and Irrigation Ponds
  • Wastewater Lagoons
  • Industrial Waste Ponds
  • Golf Course Water Features
  • Waste Containment Facilities
  • Secondary Containment
  • Mining

The University of Illinois assists engineers in designing, testing, specifying, and installing fabricated geomembranes for a variety applications.
